Albany Law School invites applications for Director of the Schaffer Law Library. The Director is responsible for all aspects of library operations, including technical services, collection development, public services, strategic and short-term planning, budgeting, and leadership of library staff. The Director is also a member of the law faculty, with rank to be determined commensurate with experience.
The Library has 4 full-time and 1 part-time professional librarians and 4 full-time and 1 part-time support staff members. The 42,000 square foot library houses a collection that includes 735,000 volumes and equivalents and 220,000 titles.
Minimum qualifications include a JD degree from an ABA approved law school, and an MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution plus at least five years of progressively responsible experience working in a law library. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to satisfying the growing research and informational needs of the faculty and students; a thorough knowledge of financial management and budgeting; the ability to successfully lead, manage and develop staff; an understanding of contemporary library operations and emerging trends in the library and technology fields; and the willingness and ability to teach.
